Spotlight on Sasha Crossman, Miss City of Los Angeles USA

In 2012, Sasha Crossman decided it was time for a change of scenery (and weather) and moved from New York to sunny Los Angeles. It was there that she first discovered yoga. This new hobby promptly became a passion: she fell in love with yoga, and with the mental and physical benefits that it offered. Sasha devoted much of her time and energy to an elevated understanding of the practice of yoga, eventually earning her 200-hour RYT certification through the Yoga Alliance.

Sasha sees her yoga practice as an essential part of her life.  Her wish is to encourage everyone to begin their own practice and to thereby open themselves up to the possibility of change in their lives. She currently resides in Los Angeles, California where she teaches private and small group sessions in power yoga. She also frequently donates her time and expertise by leading free yoga courses at various nonprofit organizations. Recently, Sasha decide to start her own non-profit, Yoga Forward, with hopes of bringing free yoga classes to underserved  communities.

Beyond her life as a yoga instructor, Ms. Crossman is a graduate student at the University of Southern California. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Secondary Education. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in English from the State University of New York, at Albany.

Positive, brave, focused, interesting, hard working, and loving are only but a few qualities that describe who I am. Nature has a divine beauty that I appreciate, which is why I enjoy hiking, gardening, and staring out into the blissful ocean that gives me a calamity and peace. I am always interested in the body and its different functions, so I love doing yoga and meditation daily. In my community, I have volunteered at pre-schools because children bring me joy and remind me of my childhood.I have also volunteered in senior homes because I enjoy learning about their lives and gaining true wisdom. I am trained in dance, singing, music, ice-skating, and horseback riding. Singing and dancing are my favorite because both have the power to change lives and bring a certain freedom and joy. I love fashion a little bit too much! I value my family, freedom, love, happiness, and friendship. I belong to a Punjabi family of Sikh priests and worshipppers and I am extremely proud of my heritage. And the last thing you should know about me is I love to experience life in all ways possible: Good-bad, bitter-sweet, happy-sad. Because the more experience I have, the more alert, aware, and mature I become. I am extremely grateful to be taking part in Miss California USA, and I know that this experience will give me the knowledge and skills to exceed in life!
